My primary interest is in the philosophy of medicine and psychiatry. Broadly speaking, I wish to study how shifts in medical thinking and practices bring wide domains of medical entities into and out of being as objects of scientific inquiry. Specifically, I am interested in natural kinds, scientific realism, the roles of values in science, explanations for complex systems, and Ian Hacking’s notion of looping-effects.

I grew up in New York City. Before Pitt, I earned my B.S in Computer Science at the University of Chicago, and my M.Phil in the History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Cambridge.
