My research is focused on methods and explanation in the life sciences, especially those concerned with human biology and evolution. I study how such explanations are built and what makes them convincing. I currently focus on three scientific areas: the evolution of human cognition, genetics, and values in science. Each of these projects contributes to our understanding of why humans are the way we are, what things about us can or cannot be explained scientifically, and how best to pursue those explanations. Across these three areas, I engage with genetics, evolutionary biology, cognitive science and psychology, and social science.
