Faculty member Colin Allen has received a $600,000 dollar grant from the Templeton World Charity Foundation for a project titled "Joyful by nature: a comparative approach to the evolution and function of joy in intelligent species." The University of Pittsburgh will be the lead institution with scientist-partners at the Universities of Auckland and Canterbury in New Zealand, St. Andrews University in Scotland, and UCLA and the University of South Alabama in the USA. The team will be conducting investigations of signs of high positive emotion in kea parrots, dolphins, and great apes.
