Special Seminar on Kant's legacy in 19th C Neurophysiology by Paolo Pecere (Rome)

September 10, 2018 - 10:00am to 12:30pm

The guest instructor for this special seminar is Paolo Pecere (University of Rome TRE).  The focus will be a short piece by Kant (1796) "Über Das Organ Der Seele," which presents his views on the questions of cerebral location of cognitive functions, and the relationship between philosophical and scientific investigation of the mind. This will be accompanied by readings from the “physiological Neo-Kantians” — Lange, Helmholtz and du Bois Reymond — as well as a couple of recent essays on the topic by Pecere. The seminar will be relevant to anyone with interests in the history of neuroscience and psychology, the historical origins of contemporary debates in philosophy of mind, as well as students of Kant.

If you would like to attend and have access to the readings, please contact Mazviita Chirimuuta <mac289@pitt.edu>.
