My primary interest is the philosophy of physics, specifically quantum field theory and statistical physics. Recently, I have thought a lot about what we can learn from the comparison of closely related physical theories and models, especially across condensed matter physics and high-energy particle physics. I’m also interested in more general questions in philosophy of science related to emergence and reduction, probability, and the use of analogical arguments in science.

I grew up near Leiden in the Netherlands. I obtained a B.Sc. in Physics and a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Groningen. After that I lived in the United Kingdom for a few years, where I completed a M.St. In Philosophy of Physics at Oxford University and a M.Sc. in Theoretical Physics at King’s College London.
