My primary research interests lie in philosophy of biology and medical ethics. My dissertation focuses on the evolution, systematics, and ecology of microbial pathogens and on attempts to model the population dynamics of antibiotic resistance in the clinical setting. I am also engaged in research on the nature of biological populations, population-level explanations, and mechanisms in evolutionary biology. In medical ethics, my research concerns pediatric decision-making and the family as a social institution. I am also interested in concepts of health and the classification of diseases. Other interests include the history of philosophy of science, feminist philosophy, 20th-century sexology, and the history of public health.
